Oklahoma stuns No. 1 Texas while Lane Kiffin's LSU slips to 4-2 in overtime loss at Kentucky
Oklahoma beat No. 1 Texas 27-24 and LSU lost 35-34 in overtime at Kentucky, a pair of Week 6 results that shake up the SEC race.

Week 6 in the SEC turned on two results. Oklahoma beat No. 1 Texas 27-24 on a field goal as time expired, and LSU lost 35-34 in overtime at Kentucky. USA TODAY's Paul Myerberg put the Sooners at the top of his weekly winners and losers column and put Lane Kiffin's Tigers among the week's biggest losers.
Oklahoma won the Red River game in the fourth quarter. According to USA TODAY Sports, the Sooners scored off two Arch Manning interceptions late in the game. Quarterback John Mateer did not turn the ball over, and his two big completions on the final drive set up Tate Sandell's 47-yard field goal at the Cotton Bowl. Myerberg called the result "a stunner" because Oklahoma had struggled since its opener, while Texas had climbed to the top of the Coaches Poll after a comeback win over Ohio State. He wrote that the win shows Brent Venables how to get the most from a roster with clear flaws, especially on offense: protect the ball and don't waste chances.
The column put Texas, Manning and Steve Sarkisian on the losers side. Myerberg wrote that the Longhorns were already a soft No. 1 after barely getting past Tennessee and should fall sharply in this week's poll.
LSU's loss at Kroger Field may cost more in the postseason picture. Kentucky ran for 4.8 yards per carry and gained 401 yards against the Tigers. The Wildcats also missed two very makeable field goals in regulation that would have kept the game from reaching overtime. Quarterback Kenny Minchey, a transfer from Notre Dame, won it with an untouched two-point run out of the shotgun. He threw for 246 yards without a turnover. LSU's Sam Leavitt turned the ball over twice.
LSU is now 4-2 and 1-2 in SEC play. Its next game is against No. 20 Mississippi State, and Alabama, Texas and Tennessee are still on the schedule. USA TODAY Sports noted that no three-loss at-large team that missed its conference championship game has made the 12-team College Football Playoff. Even with the SEC's depth helping a 9-3 team, LSU would have to finish 5-1 against one of the hardest remaining schedules in the Power Four. A month ago Kiffin's program looked like it could do no wrong. Now the Tigers are close to dropping out of the title conversation.
Oklahoma's next game ties the two stories together. Kentucky, 5-1 after taking down LSU, plays at Oklahoma on Oct. 17. Oklahoma is favored at -233 on Novig, one of the venues pricing the game, and the best sportsbook price on the Sooners is -230 at DraftKings. The total is 42.5. That low number fits a matchup between an Oklahoma team that just won by avoiding mistakes and a Kentucky team that put up 35 on LSU. Current prices are on the game page.
The Sooners now have to show that the Texas win wasn't a one-off. Kentucky is trying to prove its night against the Tigers was more than a lucky escape.
