Georgia takes over No. 1 in AP Top 25 after 20-17 win over Alabama
Georgia is No. 1 in the AP poll for the first time since 2024. Texas fell to No. 7, Kentucky entered at No. 15 and LSU dropped to No. 22.

Georgia is No. 1 in the AP Top 25 for the first time since the 2024 season. The Bulldogs moved up after a 20-17 win at Alabama on Saturday.
CBS Sports reported that Georgia received 66 of the 70 first-place votes and 1,745 points in Sunday's poll. Notre Dame moved up to No. 2 and Miami to No. 3. Georgia is 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the SEC. CBS Sports pointed out that the Bulldogs' first three conference opponents had the league's three lowest-rated offenses. That made the trip to Tuscaloosa the first real test for Georgia's defense, and it held up.
The Bulldogs replaced Texas at the top. The Longhorns fell six spots to No. 7 after losing to Oklahoma in the Red River Showdown. Alabama stayed at No. 6 after the loss, one point ahead of Texas, 1,372 to 1,371.
Texas was one of three SEC teams that took big falls. LSU dropped 12 places to No. 22 after losing to Kentucky in overtime. Florida fell out of the poll after a loss at South Carolina. Kentucky had the biggest jump of the week, going from unranked to No. 15 at 5-1. With the Wildcats replacing the Gators, the SEC still has nine ranked teams, more than any other conference. The Big Ten has six and the Big 12 has five.
What it means for Week 7
Georgia's first game as No. 1 is at home against Auburn. On Novig, one of the venues pricing the game, the Bulldogs are -1011 favorites with an 18.5-point spread and a 49.5 total. See the Auburn at Georgia odds page.
The biggest SEC game of the week is in Knoxville, where No. 6 Alabama plays No. 14 Tennessee. Alabama goes in off its first loss but is still favored at -270 on Novig, with Tennessee getting 7.5 points and the total at 53.5. A second straight loss would hurt the Crimson Tide's standing in the conference race. See the Alabama at Tennessee odds page.
Texas hosts Florida, so both teams are coming off losses. The Longhorns are -344 favorites on Novig and the spread is 9.5 points. See the Florida at Texas odds page.
LSU returns home against No. 16 Mississippi State, a ranked opponent, after the overtime loss in Lexington. The Tigers are -355 favorites on Novig and are giving 11.5 points. See the Mississippi State at LSU odds page.
Kentucky's first game back in the rankings is a trip to Oklahoma. The Sooners are coming off their win over Texas but are not ranked; they got 44 points in the others-receiving-votes group. Oklahoma is a -233 favorite on Novig, with a 6.5-point spread and a 43.5 total. See the Kentucky at Oklahoma odds page.
Outside the SEC, No. 5 Indiana and No. 4 Ohio State meet in a top-five game, and No. 2 Notre Dame visits No. 8 BYU.
