Kentucky fined $500,000 by SEC for field storming after OT win over LSU
The SEC fined Kentucky $500,000 after fans rushed the field following its 35-34 overtime win over No. 10 LSU, and the money goes to the Tigers.

Kentucky's overtime upset of No. 10 LSU will cost the school $500,000. The Southeastern Conference fined Kentucky for breaking its access-to-competition policy after fans poured onto the field at Kroger Field on Saturday night, SB Nation reported. Under league rules, fines from conference games go to the opposing school, so the money goes to LSU.
The policy does let schools allow fans onto the field after a game, but only once all visiting team personnel and game officials have left safely. According to SB Nation, that did not happen. Fans came over the railings almost as soon as quarterback Kenny Minchey ran in the winning two-point conversion, and some ran toward LSU head coach Lane Kiffin while security walked him off the field.
On3 reported that any violation now brings a flat $500,000 penalty. For non-conference games, the money goes to the SEC's post-graduate scholarship fund instead of the opponent. The league adopted the policy in 2004 and raised the fine to $500,000 in 2025. Kentucky's last field-storming fine came in 2021, after a win over No. 10 Florida, and that one cost $250,000.
The Wildcats earned that celebration the hard way. On3 noted that Kentucky missed two field goals on red-zone trips in the fourth quarter before making a third to force overtime at 27-27. LSU scored first in overtime and kicked the extra point. First-year coach Will Stein then went for the win after Kentucky's touchdown, and Minchey ran up the middle out of an empty formation for a 35-34 final.
The win came one week after a walk-off overtime win at South Carolina. On3 reported that Kentucky is the first FBS program to win back-to-back overtime games by one point each since overtime began in 1996. The Wildcats are now 5-1 and moved into the AP poll at No. 15.
