Georgia stays No. 1 in USA TODAY's Re-Rank as Texas slips after Oklahoma loss
Georgia keeps the top spot in USA TODAY's Re-Rank 1-138 after winning at Alabama. Texas drops after losing to Oklahoma and hosts Florida next.

Georgia stays at No. 1 in USA TODAY's college football Re-Rank 1-138 after winning at Alabama on Saturday. Texas fell in the same ranking after its first loss of the season, a defeat at the hands of Oklahoma.
USA TODAY's Paul Myerberg said the top spot wasn't close. "There's no debate over Georgia landing at No. 1," he wrote, adding that No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 3 Miami lack the résumés to challenge the Bulldogs. The three-point win in Tuscaloosa pushed Georgia to 6-0, and Alabama stayed at No. 6 even with the loss.
Even after the drop, Texas is still among the top eight. The SEC has four teams in that group: Georgia, Alabama, the Longhorns and No. 8 Mississippi. Oklahoma moved up to No. 29 after the win over Texas. Other SEC teams moved in both directions. Kentucky jumped 20 spots to No. 20 after beating LSU, which slid to No. 21. Florida dropped to No. 33, and Texas A&M fell to No. 55.
Outside the conference, UCLA rose nine places to No. 9 after a 17-15 win over Oregon. The Ducks fell to No. 37.
Both SEC programs at the center of this week's ranking play conference games on Saturday, Oct. 17.
Texas, No. 7 and 4-1, hosts Florida (4-2) at noon Eastern on ABC. The Longhorns need a clean response after the Oklahoma loss, and a second conference defeat would hurt their standing in the SEC race. The Gators are coming off a ranking slide of their own, so a road upset would do the most to repair their season. Texas is favored at -344 on Novig, one of the venues pricing the game. The spread is Texas -10.5 with a total of 52.5, and BetMGM has the Longhorns at -375. Full pricing is on the Florida at Texas odds page.
Georgia comes home to face Auburn (3-2) at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. The Bulldogs have the strongest résumé in the country after a road win at Alabama, and the job now is to avoid a letdown in a rivalry game. Auburn would need a road win over the No. 1 team to get its season going. The market has a clear favorite. Georgia is favored at -1011 on Novig, with a spread of 19.5 points and a total of 49.5. Pinnacle has the Bulldogs at -1167. The full board is on the Auburn at Georgia odds page.
If Georgia wins, it will hold a firm grip on the top spot heading into the back half of October. If Texas wins, the Longhorns will move past the Oklahoma loss with their place in the conference's top tier still intact.
