Miami climbs to No. 3 after an idle week as Texas falls to Oklahoma on a walk-off kick
Miami rose from No. 4 to No. 3 in both polls without playing after Oklahoma beat Texas 27-24. Georgia took No. 1, and Texas hosts Florida next.

Miami moved up a spot without playing. The Hurricanes went from No. 4 to No. 3 in both the AP and Coaches polls on Sunday after a bye week, and the opening came mostly from the Red River rivalry in Dallas.
As SB Nation's State of the U reported, Miami got in front of Texas after the Longhorns lost to unranked Oklahoma. After an Arch Manning interception, the Sooners hurried down the field, and Tate Sandell made a 48-yard field goal as time ran out to win 27-24. The outlet called the off Saturday well timed for an "ailing" Miami team.
Texas came into the weekend at No. 1, so the loss changed the top of the rankings. Georgia now holds the top spot after a 20-17 win at Alabama. Notre Dame is No. 2 after beating Stanford 58-7. Indiana won 20-17 at Nebraska, which had been unbeaten, and Ohio State beat Maryland 48-19. Both stayed in the top five behind Miami.
State of the U doesn't expect a No. 1 vs. No. 2 meeting between Miami and Notre Dame anytime soon, because Georgia should stay on top of every poll and playoff ranking until it loses. The Bulldogs play Auburn and Florida before a Nov. 7 trip to Ole Miss, and the outlet doesn't see them stumbling before then. Miami also got some help from the rest of the poll. Wake Forest, which the Hurricanes have already beaten, came back from a halftime deficit to win 38-14 at NC State and entered the rankings at No. 21 in one poll and No. 23 in the other. That gives Miami a win over a currently ranked team.
For the SEC, the bigger story is in Austin. Texas has to recover from losing a rivalry game on the final play, and that loss gave up the No. 1 ranking the Longhorns had held. The Red River game counts in the conference standings, so the Longhorns now carry an SEC loss into the middle of the season. In a race that will be judged by playoff resumes, they can't afford another one.
The next test is Florida at Texas on Oct. 17. Even after Saturday's loss, the market expects Texas to handle the Gators. The Longhorns are favored at -344 on Novig, one of the venues pricing the game. FanDuel has the best sportsbook price on Texas at -375. The spread is Texas -9.5 and the total is 53.5. Florida also has Georgia coming up on its schedule, so the next few weeks will show how much of the conference race goes through the Gators.
Miami's next game is its annual meeting with Florida State, and it will play it as the No. 3 team in the country. The Hurricanes did nothing on Saturday and still came out ahead. Texas has a week to show that one missed chance in Dallas doesn't change the rest of its season.
