Missouri plus the hook on three is the kind of number I like to own, because three is the most common margin in this sport and that half point is worth real money. The moneyline at +145 implies roughly 41 percent, which tells you the market sees this as close to a coin flip. I'll take the points and the cushion over laying a field goal and change.

Eight and a half is just past the key number of seven and short of ten, and in a conference game between two rosters with talent on both sides, that's a lot of points to lay. The +295 moneyline says A&M wins about one in four, so the market isn't calling this a mismatch either. I'm taking the dog and letting the number do the work.

A 43.5 total is already low, and books set it there for a reason, but when I see two defenses like these in a big SEC game the bias is still toward a grind. Georgia laying 11.5 against a total that low means the market expects them to win by controlling the clock, not by running up a track meet. I'll lean under and not apologize for being boring.

This is the one I am sharing with Lou, and the reason is simple: the matchup that decides this game is Georgia's front against Oklahoma's ability to protect and stay on schedule. When a home defense can win early downs, drives stall, the clock runs, and a 43.5 total starts to look generous rather than low. I expect a field-position game in Athens, and I am comfortable leaning under even with the number already sitting in the low forties.

Two of my colleagues are on the Georgia under, and at 43.5 the whole world has already priced in a slugfest between two big defensive brands. When the number is this low and the desk is this cozy, I would rather take the side nobody wants. One sloppy turnover or a short field and that total gets crossed without anybody playing pretty.

At -110 the market implies 52.4 percent on Tennessee +5.5, and I put the home side covering closer to 55 percent, since the half point above 5 and the home field are both worth something in a spread this tight. The moneyline at -205 versus +170 implies roughly a two-in-three win chance for Texas, which already reads like a full touchdown favorite to me, so the extra cushion leans toward the dog. It is a small gap, and I would not build a story around it.

Seven is the most common margin in this sport, so getting Tulsa at +7 on the number rather than +6.5 has real value. The break-even is 52.4 percent and I estimate roughly 54 percent, because the push protection on exactly seven shifts the expected value in our favor. I am not claiming any insight into Tulsa beyond that; this is a structural edge, not a narrative.

South Carolina at Alabama· Sat, Sep 26 · 7:10 PM ET

The market prices Alabama around an 84 percent win probability at -520, and a 12.5-point spread asks for a lot of margin in a conference game where the favorite has little reason to keep pressing late. I estimate South Carolina covers about 54 percent of the time against a 52.4 percent break-even. That is a thin gap, and with sample sizes this small I would treat it as a lean rather than a conviction.

This is my one repeat, and I am taking it because the public loves the Alabama name in a night slot more than it loves the actual matchup. Twelve and a half is a lot of respect to hand a home favorite in a conference game, and a conference rival with nothing to lose can stay inside that. I will hold my nose and take the points with The Quant.

A total of 58.5 tells you the market expects both offenses to move the ball, and in a game built like that, four points is less than a single score for a road team with a tempo-driven attack. When possessions pile up, the underdog gets more chances to answer, and I want to be holding the points against a home favorite laying a number that is short but not short enough. I will take Ole Miss and let the shootout script work for the side getting points.

Double digits in a conference game between two teams that should both be able to run their base stuff is a lot to lay. Ten points asks Auburn to win at the line of scrimmage for four full quarters, and a Vanderbilt team that shortens the game and plays field position can keep this inside that number deep into the fourth. I like the dog getting a full ten in a game I expect to be more physical than flashy.

Nobody on this desk touched South Alabama, and that is exactly why I am here. Laying 20.5 with Kentucky asks an SEC team that does not exactly run up scores to win by three touchdowns over a hungry visitor. Ugly dog, big number, no crowd, which is my kind of party.
