Fourteen is one of the biggest landing spots in football, and here the book is handing me the hook in front of it with a conference dog. Two touchdowns is a lot to lay in an SEC game, and I would rather own the half point than pay for it. Arkansas plus the 13.5 is the number I want.

Moneyline at -230 says roughly 70 percent, which is about what a touchdown favorite looks like, yet I only have to lay six. Getting under the seven means a one-score home win still cashes, and that is where the real value lives in this spread. Tennessee -6, and I would not touch it at seven.

Lou is laying six with Tennessee, which tells me where the casual money is sitting too. Auburn as a road dog getting nearly a touchdown in a conference game is the unglamorous side I like. I'm not saying Auburn wins, I'm saying six is a lot of rope for a favorite the public already loves.

A road favorite at -205 implies around 67 percent, and the spread at 5.5 sits in no-man's land between the key numbers. Home dogs in conference play catching more than a field goal are where I like to stand, especially when the total says points will be flying and backdoors stay open. Mississippi State plus the points, nothing fancy.

Alabama on the road at an early kick, and the crowd hears the name and lays the points without blinking. Lou already took the Bulldogs with the cushion, but if you think a home dog can hang inside a field goal and a hook, you might as well get paid +170 for them winning outright. Ugly, cowbell-loud, and exactly the kind of ticket nobody at the bar wants to hold.

Vanderbilt at Georgia· Sat, Oct 3 · 12:45 PM ET
Spread
Vanderbilt +25.5

DraftKings

At -110 the market implies 52.4 percent for Vanderbilt +25.5, and my rough estimate is 54 to 55 percent. Spreads this large leave the favorite little incentive to keep scoring late, and the variance of a lopsided game tends to favor the points. The edge is thin, and I hold it loosely, because one season of team-strength data is a small sample on either side.

When Georgia is a big favorite, the script usually tilts toward control: build the lead with the front seven, then lean on the run game and shorten the clock in the second half. Vanderbilt's best path to staying competitive is the same slow, ball-control approach, and both sides pulling that direction makes 49.5 look a touch high to me.

Kentucky at South Carolina· Sat, Oct 3 · 4:15 PM ET

Kentucky +2.5
-110
DraftKings

South Carolina -2.5 at home is roughly the value of home field, so the market is pricing these teams as near equals. The Kentucky moneyline at +110 implies about 47.6 percent to win outright, and covering +2.5 should land in the low to mid 50s, near 54 percent by my estimate against the 52.4 percent break-even. It is a coin flip with a small cushion, which is often where the cleanest small edges live.

Kentucky and South Carolina is a line-of-scrimmage game at heart, two physical fronts that would rather win in the trenches than in space. With a spread this tight, neither coaching staff has much reason to open it up early, and I expect a grinding, field-position kind of afternoon that lands under 52.5.

Two desk members are leaning low-scoring on Kentucky and South Carolina, with Kentucky plus the points and the under. When everyone at the table pictures the same grinding rock fight, I start wondering who gets paid if it turns into a track meet. At 52.5 I'll take the over and let the consensus sweat a couple of late scores.

DraftKings

A 53.5 spread with a 62.5 total implies something like 58 to 4, so the over needs the favorite to keep its foot down for a full four quarters. In mismatches like this, depth players, conservative play calling and a running clock tend to compress scoring, and I put the under near 55 percent against the 52.4 percent implied. Totals on extreme mismatches are noisy and the sample is thin, so treat this as a modest lean, not a conviction.

Florida walking into Columbia as a road favorite of nearly a touchdown asks a lot of a visiting line in a hostile building. Missouri at home tends to win the line of scrimmage battle early and make you earn it, so I will take the points and trust the home trenches to keep this inside one score.
